The Move

We had purchased the property in Altadena not long after our daughter was born in 2001. Having previously lived in a tiny beach bungalow we were fortunate enough to purchase a bigger home while keeping our beach house and renting it out. In 2008 the recession really hit, and it was hard on everyone. Our Venice tenant could no longer afford her rent and was four months behind. In addition, the writers strike took my husband out of work for 18 months. We decided that we needed to sell one of the houses, so we ended up selling the canyon house. I successfully re-homed the majority of my chickens and took only three. Gigi, Meat and of course Momma – the original gangster.

My husband did not have the time to build a new coop right away for the remaining girls, so I needed to improvise quickly. There was a dresser sitting in the front yard that we had absolutely no room for so for the next six weeks, with the second to last drawer opened, that became my hen house. They Loved it!
